Welcome to my school history website; a celebration of the Goodwin Academy Mill Road Site reaching 80 years old and a reflection of the several eras of the school that have shaped Secondary Education in Deal to what it is today. The school started as two single sex schools and has twice seen an amalgamation, a school fire and is now a large Academy that serves the whole of Deal. I have collated over 80 years of history on to one “compelling” website to ensure that the Mill Road Site is properly documented prior to its impending demolition. I am truly honoured to have been given the opportunity to provide this excellent learning resource, which is also a contribution to my ICT coursework, before we lose a harmonious and warming building that not only I will remember, but many of our staff will miss and people around Deal cherish their childhood memories upon. I am also very proud to have independently produced a project that covers all aspects of the building because, not only is it an excellent addition to our new website, but this will remain the only resource available that has thorough documentation of the school, the staff through the years and the students.

The original building was never built for the growing population of Deal, the modern education system and the varied curriculum that we now offer our students, but the school has not failed to serve its purpose, and it has become a landmark in our local community. Demolishing our school will be disheartening for the people whose lives it has shaped, but opening a brand new building in September will bring Goodwin Academy new opportunities. Providing high quality education in a brand new building will be extremely fulfilling for many members of staff here at Goodwin Academy and it will be rewarding for students to use state-of-the-art facilities in a modern environment built for the student and their educational needs.

If you have any questions about our website, or indeed you wish to contribute to our content, please do not hesitate to contact us; we would love to hear from you!
